Empowering Justice-Involved Youth through Participation and Dialogue
MovingON – From Conflict to Participation is a 24-month transnational initiative co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme (Key Action 3 – European Youth Together). The project involves 9 partner organisations from 6 EU countries (Portugal, Italy, Romania, Greece, Spain, and the Netherlands), working together to engage and empower justice-involved and at-risk youth.
Aligned with the European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027, MovingON provides vulnerable young people with the resources and platforms needed to become active citizens and agents of solidarity, transitioning from social exclusion to active participation in democratic life.
Our Specific Objectives
To achieve systemic change, the MovingON project focuses on five strategic goals:
- Promote Transnational Cooperation: Over 24 months, we foster collaboration between EU organisations, juvenile justice professionals, policy-makers, and youth mentors to build trust in democratic institutions.
- Empower At-Risk Youth: We adapt proven methodologies to engage at least 70 justice-involved and at-risk youth, empowering them to take control of their lives and participate in decision-making processes.
- Youth Mobilities & EU Values: We involve at least 58 young people and mentors in 2 transnational youth mobilities, amplifying their voices from a local to an EU level and strengthening their connection to European democratic foundations.
- Circles of Dialogue: We organise 12 Circles of Dialogue to connect youth directly with decision-makers, raising awareness about the benefits of inclusive policy-making.
- Global Impact & Advocacy: We conclude our journey with a final high-level event targeting more than 50 EU stakeholders, ensuring our policy recommendations have a lasting impact beyond the local level.
Methodology: Restorative Approaches & VideoVoice
MovingON is grounded in a twin participatory and restorative approach. We value the “lived experience” and expertise of young people who have faced the justice system.
A core tool in our strategy is VideoVoice. Through participatory videography, participants capture their daily realities and stories. These videos serve as a “window” for policy-makers into the challenges of juvenile justice, turning personal narratives into powerful advocacy tools for systemic reform
